Kudos to UMD AREC alumni Melinda Smale (Ph.D. '92) and Brian Roe (Ph.D. '97). They have been selected for the 2022 Fellows Class of the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association (AAEA), the association's highest honor.
Dr. Smale is a Professor of International Development in the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics and a member of the department's Food Security Group at Michigan State University. Her career has encompassed a global research program focusing on adoption and impact processes for seed, including biotechnology, and improved crop management practices, as well as practices to rehabilitate soil fertility and moisture.
Dr. Roe is the Fred N. VanBuren Professor of Farm Management in the Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics in the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the Ohio State University. He has worked in the areas of agricultural marketing, information policy, behavioral economics, and product quality. He also helped form and currently leads the Ohio State Food Waste Collaborative.
The official ceremony naming the new cohort of AAEA Fellows will be held at the AAEA annual meeting in Anaheim, CA, on August 1, 2022.
